European Parliament President Roberta Metsola announced that an important agreement had been reached to strengthen Europe's resilience in the field of defence.

Metsola stated that under the Agile and Rapid Defence Innovation Programme (AGILE), defence innovation will be accelerated, new capabilities will be deployed more rapidly, and access to financing for start-ups will be made easier.

Noting that the programme will support Ukraine's needs, Metsola stressed that one of AGILE's main objectives is to strengthen Europe's security.

She also highlighted the European Parliament's role in reaching the agreement swiftly and thanked European Parliament Committee on Security and Defence Chair Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, Industry Committee Chair Borys Budka, rapporteurs Ivars Ijabs and Tomasz Picula, as well as the Council of the European Union and all those who contributed during the Irish Presidency process.
