Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu announced that a serious security incident had occurred on a flight traveling from Dubai to Israel.

In a statement on his social media account, Netanyahu said one of the pilots stabbed the other pilot and was believed to have tried to take control of the aircraft and bring it down with everyone on board.

Netanyahu said he spoke with an Israeli passenger who told him that the aircraft had begun circling and rapidly losing altitude. He said the passenger entered the cockpit with a crew member and they subdued the pilot who was said to have attempted to sabotage the aircraft’s systems. Another flight crew then entered the cockpit and stabilized the plane again.

Netanyahu said the aircraft landed safely at Tabuk Airport in Saudi Arabia and that all passengers were out of danger. He added that the pilot said to have been involved in the stabbing had been detained and questioned by Saudi authorities.

Netanyahu said they remained in constant contact with the relevant authorities to ensure the passengers’ safe return to Israel. He also said he had instructed security agencies to prepare for any possible additional threats and that developments were being closely monitored.

Reuters reported that the aircraft was diverted to Saudi Arabia following the incident and that all passengers were safe. The investigation into the incident was said to be ongoing.
