Czech President Pavel received Romanian President Nicușor Dan and his partner Mirabela Grădinaru at Prague Castle.

In a post on his social media account, Pavel said relations between Czechia and Romania have a history dating back to the Middle Ages. Pavel said more than 33,000 Romanian soldiers were killed or went missing during the liberation of Czechoslovakia.

Pavel said the two countries are now brought together primarily by shared concerns over European security, noting that Romania is an important part of NATO’s eastern flank.

Pavel claimed that Romanian airspace had repeatedly been violated by Russian drones and said that security in the Black Sea is an issue that goes beyond Romania’s borders and concerns all of Europe.

Pavel said that for this reason, the two countries wanted to continue strengthening their cooperation in the fields of defense and the economy.
