Newly released Epstein files contain references to Donald Trump
Washington, December 24 (Hibya) - A new section of the so-called Epstein files released on Tuesday contains multiple references to Donald Trump; among them is a claim by a senior US prosecutor that the US president was on the same plane as a now-deceased child sexual abuser and a 20-year-old woman in the 1990s.
There is no indication of whether the woman was a victim of a crime, and her inclusion in the files does not constitute a crime.
The latest batch of files from the US Department of Justice contains more references to Trump, but also includes more details about Epstein’s relationship with economist Larry Summers.
Among the many references to Trump is an email suggesting that Epstein traveled on his private jet with women who might be potential witnesses in the case against Epstein’s accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell.
The subject of the email, sent on January 7, 2020, by the Southern District of New York prosecutor, is titled "Epstein flight records."
The text reads: “For your awareness, I wanted to point out that the flight records we received yesterday show that Donald Trump traveled on Epstein's private jet far more times than previously reported (or than we knew), including the period that we expect to cover the charges in the Maxwell case.”
Trump had promised to release the Epstein files during his last presidential campaign. This summer, the Department of Justice announced that it would not release any files regarding the late financier, which led to backlash after claims by Attorney General Pam Bondi that "no incriminating client list" was found, despite allegations that such a document had been on her desk.
This statement led to anger from both sides of the political aisle, reigniting scrutiny of Trump’s past ties with Epstein; Epstein, before their relationship soured in 2004, had been on friendly terms with Trump for at least 15 years. The president has consistently denied knowledge of Epstein’s criminal activities or involvement in them, repeatedly denying any wrongdoing.
On Tuesday, the Department of Justice released a statement saying it had published approximately 30,000 more pages of Epstein-related documents and said, "Some of these documents contain false and sensational accusations against President Trump that were submitted to the FBI just before the 2020 election."
