Pakistan reiterates support for Saudi Arabia at Mecca Defense Alliance meeting
Riyadh, October 5 (Hibya) - Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defense Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir attended an emergency meeting in Riyadh of the Strategic Political and Defense Committee established under the Mecca Mutual Defense Agreement.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said in a social media post that the emergency meeting of the Strategic Political and Defense Committee established under the Mecca Mutual Defense Agreement was held in Riyadh on October 5, 2026.
The post said the appointment of retired Lieutenant General Nauman Mahmood as the first Secretary-General of the Mecca Defense Alliance was approved at the meeting.
The post stated that the attempted attack on Mecca and Medina, as well as the ongoing attacks against Saudi Arabia, were strongly condemned. It added that the three countries exchanged views on the latest developments in the region and expressed their determination to cooperate closely for regional peace and stability.
The post said Pakistan reiterated its solidarity with Saudi Arabia at the meeting and expressed full support for the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and security.
Pakistan also reaffirmed its commitment to continuing all efforts to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region.
