Syrian TV: Clashes erupt in Deir ez-Zor between Syrian army and Kurds
Stockholm, August 14 (Hibya) - According to the Syrian television channel Syria TV, clashes broke out in the city of Deir ez-Zor on the Euphrates River between the army affiliated with the interim Syrian government and the Kurdish formations of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
The channel reported: "In the city of Deir ez-Zor, on both banks of the Euphrates River, clashes broke out between the SDF and the Syrian army, involving the use of automatic weapons and rockets."
Earlier, official officials in Damascus and leaders of the Kurdish autonomous administration in northeastern Syria had exchanged mutual accusations regarding bombardments and provocations along the contact line in Aleppo province.
Meanwhile, yesterday, sources from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported a military escalation along frontlines between Turkish-backed groups affiliated with the Ministry of Defense and the SDF in recent hours, as well as the arrival of new reinforcements to areas in eastern Aleppo and the eastern countryside of Raqqa.
According to SOHR, the Sultan Suleiman Shah group and the Al Hamza Division sent military reinforcements to frontlines stretching from Deir Hafer in eastern Aleppo to the town of Akireş in the eastern countryside of Raqqa. Armored vehicles and medium and heavy weapons were widely deployed along the road connecting the two provinces.
In the meantime, fearing being drawn into a new wave of military escalation, the SDF increased its military readiness to prepare for any sudden developments and to strengthen its positions along the entire frontline.
