Trump announces this year's Kennedy Center Honors recipients
Stockholm, August 14 (Hibya) - U.S. President Donald Trump announced that this year's Kennedy Center Honors will be awarded to action star Sylvester Stallone, stage actor Michael Crawford, singers George Strait and Gloria Gaynor, and the rock band KISS.
Breaking from tradition, Trump will host a special show this year in honor of the recipients of the nation's highest artistic award.
Upon returning to office, Trump dismissed the president and much of the board of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and assumed leadership himself—a move widely criticized as political interference in the arts.
In a statement on Wednesday, Trump said he plans to completely renovate the federally funded center.
He stated that he contributed “98%” to the selection of this year’s honorees, adding, “I contributed a lot.”
Trump also admitted that some artists refused the award, a reference to dissatisfaction with his leadership of the 54-year-old center.
