Tsahkna: This is not neutrality, it is complicity
Tallinn, July 8 (Hibya) - Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna commented on the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) decision to allow Russian athletes to return to international competitions.
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna criticized the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) decision to allow Russian athletes to return to international competitions, describing the move as shameful and irresponsible.
Highlighting the timing and nature of the decision, Tsahkna said, "This is a shameful and irresponsible decision by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). While Russia continues its campaign of terror against Ukraine, the IOC has chosen to look the other way, lift restrictions, and pave the way for Russian athletes to return to international competitions. This is not neutrality, it is complicity."
Referring to the losses suffered by Ukrainian athletes, Tsahkna stated, "Because of Russia's aggression, hundreds of Ukrainian athletes, coaches, and young talents have been killed or deprived of their Olympic futures. Yet the IOC refuses to face this reality."
Emphasizing the priorities of the international community, Tsahkna said, "At a time when Russia continues its attacks against Ukraine, the priority cannot be to stand shoulder to shoulder with the aggressor. The priority must be to strengthen isolation, defend international law, and protect the integrity of sport."
