Drawing attention to the scale of the crisis in the region and calling for a global response, Türk said: "Sudan: I am issuing a red alert that must reach the desks of heads of state and government around the world."
Emphasizing the need for urgent intervention to end the humanitarian tragedy in Kordofan State and surrounding areas, High Commissioner Volker Türk said: "Action at the highest level is needed to prevent atrocity crimes in El Obeid and elsewhere in Kordofan."
