U.S. stocks close lower as technology shares lead market sell-off
Istanbul, July 24 (Hibya) – U.S. stock markets ended the trading session with sharp losses.
U.S. stock markets ended the trading session with sharp losses. Weak performance in technology stocks weighed heavily on the major indices as declining investor risk appetite was reflected across the markets.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) fell 506.93 points to 51,711.65, ending the day down 0.97 percent.
The broad-based S&P 500 Index lost 90.66 points to close at 7,408.30, marking a daily decline of 1.21 percent.
The technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite dropped 553.21 points to 25,137.69, recording the steepest loss among the major indices with a decline of 2.15 percent.
The Nasdaq 100 Index, which tracks major technology companies, also fell 543.29 points to 28,454.81, ending the session down 1.87 percent.
The small-cap Russell 2000 Index declined 19.78 points to 2,940.16, posting a loss of 0.67 percent.
The technology-led sell-off in U.S. markets suggested that investors were repricing expectations regarding corporate earnings, the economic outlook, and monetary policy.
