German Foreign Minister Wadephul said that the Iranian regime destabilizes an entire region through its proxies such as the Houthis, Hamas, or Hezbollah.

Wadephul noted that Iran contributes to the continuation of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and that Iran applies “brutal” repression against its own people, adding:

“This Iranian regime is a threat not only to Israel, but also to other states and, above all, to Europe. I strongly condemn Iran’s attacks on all Gulf countries. These attacks target uninvolved parties and also endanger German citizens in the region.”

Wadephul said that during today’s talks, foreign ministers in the region shared the same view and supported a return to the negotiating table, stating: “Iran must finally understand that its nuclear program and its missile program must be stopped.”
