Weel: Conflicts continue and international agreements are under pressure
Amsterdam, February 2 (Hibya) – Dutch Foreign Minister David van Weel emphasized in his meeting with ambassadors that the Netherlands needs to adopt a more realistic and strategic stance.
Dutch Foreign Minister David van Weel met with his country’s diplomatic representatives and made statements on the rapidly changing global geopolitical balance and the Netherlands’ new strategies in this process.
Noting that traditional diplomacy has given way to power struggles, Weel said: “Diplomacy is no longer what it used to be. Power politics have returned, conflicts continue, and international agreements are under pressure.”
Weel added: “I discussed this issue with our ambassadors and addressed what is expected from the Netherlands and from their work in a rapidly changing world.”
Stating that foreign policy priorities are becoming interconnected in the new era, Weel said: “The focus was on how security, the economy, and foreign policy are increasingly intertwined. This requires realism, consistency, and the ability to weigh interests in a rapidly changing world.”
