Witkoff says Trump wonders why Iran has not "surrendered"
Washington, 23 February (Hibya) - United States (US) Special Envoy Steve Witkoff said that US President Donald Trump is questioning why Iran has not yet "surrendered" in the face of Washington’s military buildup in the Middle East.
Speaking to Fox News on Saturday, Witkoff said Trump is "curious" about Iran’s stance after warning of a limited military strike if no agreement is reached regarding Tehran’s nuclear program.
In the interview, Witkoff said, “I don’t want to use the word ‘frustrated’... because Trump understands he has many alternatives, but he wonders why they haven’t surrendered... I don’t want to use the word ‘surrendered,’ but he wonders why they haven’t.”
The US and its European allies suspect that Iran is moving toward producing a nuclear weapon, which Tehran denies.
In Iran, anti-government protests were held at several universities over the weekend, marking the first demonstrations of this scale since the deadly crackdown in January that resulted in thousands of deaths.
