Zelensky: We had an intensive and constructive conversation with the US for peace
Kyiv, December 6 (Hibya) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that during a phone call with U.S. Middle East Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and former White House Senior Advisor Jared Kushner, key issues aimed at ending the war were discussed.
Zelensky announced that he held a long and thorough phone conversation with Witkoff and Kushner, with Andrii Hnatov and Defense Minister Rustem Umerov also participating from the Ukrainian side.
He said the conversation was “focused and constructive,” addressing the end of bloodshed, eliminating the risk of a new Russian invasion, and security guarantees in case Moscow fails to keep its commitments.
Zelensky stressed that “Ukraine is determined to work in good faith with the American side to achieve real peace,” adding that both sides agreed on the next steps and negotiation formats. He also thanked U.S. President Donald Trump for his intensive approach to mediation.
The President added that he expects a comprehensive in-person report from Defense Minister Umerov and General Hnatov: “Not everything can be discussed over the phone. Every step toward peace, security, and reconstruction must be feasible.”
