Bulgaria: The EU should lead diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine
Sofia, October 10 (Hibya) — Bulgarian President Rumen Radev stated that Europe’s top priority should be to find a political solution to the war in Ukraine, emphasizing that this is a necessary step toward achieving lasting peace and stability across the continent.
Speaking at the Arraiolos Group summit in Tallinn, Estonia, Radev underlined that the European Union must assume a leading role in resolving the conflict.
According to Radev, the protracted hostilities in Ukraine threaten the continent’s shared future. “The key and leading role must be played by the EU and by Europe, because as this war continues, our future becomes a hostage to war. The solution should be achieved primarily through diplomacy based on international law and supported by clear and credible security guarantees,” he said.
During the summit, Radev also touched on broader issues of peace and security, welcoming progress in President Donald Trump’s Middle East peace initiative. He voiced support for the first stage of the plan aimed at ending the war in Gaza, calling it an important step toward implementing the two-state solution — the only viable path, in his words, to sustainable and lasting peace in the region.
