Bulgaria to declare December 31 and January 2 public holidays in preparation for the euro transition
Sofia, October 10 (Hibya) – The Bulgarian Council of Ministers plans to declare December 31, 2025, and January 2, 2026, as official public holidays in connection with the country’s transition to the euro.
This initiative, related to the adoption of the euro as Bulgaria’s official currency, was introduced by Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova.
According to the statement, the transition requires essential practical and technical preparations, as detailed in the National Plan for the Euro Transition and its accompanying Action Plan. These preparations aim to ensure the proper functioning of financial, informational, and operational systems within the new monetary environment.
Minister Petkova noted that designating December 31 and January 2 as holidays before and after the euro’s adoption is necessary to provide sufficient time for system adjustments and sector adaptation.
This measure aims to minimize operational risks for financial institutions and other sectors affected by the currency exchange change and to ensure a smooth and seamless transition to the euro.
