Ghebreyesus: Ceasefire in Gaza brings new hope
Geneva, October 10 (Hibya) – World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that the approval of the ceasefire in Gaza has brought new hope for both Palestinians and Israelis.
WHO Director-General Ghebreyesus stated that the endorsement of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza has brought new hope to millions of Palestinians as well as to Israeli families waiting for the release of their loved ones.
He emphasized that WHO will continue focusing on the sustainability of health services in Gaza, supporting healthcare workers, and rebuilding the health system to strengthen both early recovery and long-term resilience.
The WHO Director-General added that the delivery of medical supplies and ensuring access for emergency medical teams to care points are priorities, stressing the need to establish corridors for transferring critical patients for treatment outside Gaza. He also highlighted the importance of ensuring unimpeded access to mental health services across Gaza.
Ghebreyesus concluded his statement by saying: “Now let us keep our word and work together for lasting peace. Peace is the best medicine.”
