Tajani: We reiterate our call for a global moratorium on the death penalty
Rome, October 10 (Hibya) – Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, in a statement marking the World and European Day Against the Death Penalty, reiterated his call for the abolition of the death penalty. Tajani recalled that the moratorium resolution submitted by Italy and Argentina to the United Nations in 2024 was adopted with record support.
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, in his statement on the occasion of the World and European Day Against the Death Penalty, underlined his country’s determination to work for the universal abolition of the death penalty.
“Italy strongly renews its call on the occasion of the World and European Day Against the Death Penalty,” Tajani stated.
He recalled that in 2024, Italy and Argentina presented to the United Nations a resolution calling for a universal moratorium on the death penalty, which was adopted. “Thanks to our commitment, a record number of 130 countries voted in favor of banning this inhumane practice,” he added.
Tajani stressed that Italy will continue to cooperate with civil society organizations worldwide to halt executions and strengthen respect for human rights.
