Canada to amend the Criminal Code
Ottawa, October 28 (Hibya) – Canadian Justice Minister Sean Fraser announced that the government will amend the Criminal Code to better protect first responders.
Justice Minister Sean Fraser stated that the Criminal Code is being amended to provide better protection for first response teams.
Highlighting the difficulty of asking someone to enter a burning building or save a person in cardiac arrest, Fraser said that first responders should not face violence while performing their duties.
“Those who protect us also need protection. That’s why we are introducing tougher penalties for those who commit crimes against first responders on duty,” he said.
Fraser added, “Good ideas are not born behind closed doors, but from conversations with people in the field. I want to thank Minister Wiebe and Mayor Gillingham for their cooperation in implementing this important change.”
