Canadian Foreign Minister Anand met with Chinese Foreign Minister Yi
Ottawa, May 30 (Hibya) - Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand announced that she discussed new cooperation initiatives in Canada-China relations with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The two sides agreed to increase cooperation in trade, energy, and strategic sectors.
Anand announced that she held a meeting with Yi in Canada.
Anand stated that this was the first visit by a Chinese foreign minister to Canada in more than a decade and described it as an important step for bilateral relations.
During the meeting, it was announced that Canada would be the guest country of honor at the China International Import Expo and that the foreign ministers of the two countries would meet at least once a year.
The parties agreed to enhance cooperation in sectors such as agriculture, clean technology, energy, and manufacturing. It was also reported that steps had been taken to reopen dialogue channels on national security issues.
The statement also noted that Canada will organize a trade mission to China in the field of creative industries this autumn. The two ministers also agreed to meet again in July on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit.
