Ghebreyesus: Half of Haiti’s population faces hunger
Geneva, April 24 (Hibya) – WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that half of Haiti’s population is facing hunger and that the people of Haiti deserve peace.
Ghebreyesus emphasized that children are among the worst affected, facing risks of stunting and other lifelong health issues.
He added that the WHO supports nutrition stabilization centers, ensures that severely malnourished children receive medical care, and promotes breastfeeding as a life-saving intervention.
“Ongoing violence, economic collapse, and cuts in humanitarian aid funding point to a bleak future unless the international community acts. We need more assistance and security for humanitarian workers to do their jobs.”
Ghebreyesus stressed that the people of Haiti deserve peace.
