Joint statement from 21 Arab, Islamic and African countries
Doha, December 27 (Hibya) – Twenty-one Arab, Islamic and African countries issued a joint statement regarding Israel’s recognition of the Somaliland region.
The foreign ministers of the State of Qatar, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, the Union of the Comoros, the Republic of Djibouti, the Republic of The Gambia, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Iraq, the State of Kuwait, the State of Libya, the Republic of Maldives, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Sultanate of Oman, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the State of Palestine, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Federal Republic of Somalia, the Republic of Sudan, the Republic of Türkiye, the Republic of Yemen, and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation condemned and rejected Israel’s recognition of the “Somaliland” region of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The ministers underscored the following:
“The firm rejection of Israel’s recognition on 26 December 2025 of the ‘Somaliland’ region of the Federal Republic of Somalia, as this unprecedented measure will have serious repercussions for peace and security in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea, and will cause severe harm to international peace and security more broadly; it also reflects Israel’s full and blatant disregard for international law.
They strongly condemned such recognition as a grave violation of the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter, which explicitly require the preservation of states’ sovereignty and territorial integrity, noting that this reflects Israel’s expansionist tendencies.
They affirmed full support for the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia and the categorical rejection of any measures that would undermine Somalia’s unity, territorial integrity, or sovereignty over all its territory.
They noted that recognizing parts of states constitutes a dangerous precedent, threatens international peace and security, and violates the fundamental principles of international law and the United Nations Charter.
They completely rejected any possible link between such a measure and attempts to forcibly displace the Palestinian people from their lands; such attempts are rejected in principle and categorically in all forms.”
