Lavrov: BRICS is strengthening its strategic role in the vision of a multipolar world
Moscow, May 27 (Hibya) - During a meeting chaired by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, it was emphasized that BRICS should strengthen its role in establishing a fairer and multipolar world order in global governance.
The Board of the Russian Foreign Ministry discussed the development prospects of BRICS and the expansion of the organization’s role within Russia’s multipolar world strategy.
The meeting was attended by heads of ministry departments, representatives of the Presidential Administrative Office, and officials from relevant state institutions.
During the discussions, it was stated that BRICS serves as a platform representing the interests of Global South and Eastern countries and acts as an advocate for a fairer international order. The need for global governance reforms and the development of balancing mechanisms in the world economy was also emphasized.
Participants highlighted the importance of practical initiatives aimed at supporting sustainable socioeconomic growth and financial stability in BRICS countries.
It was noted that during Russia’s 2024 BRICS chairmanship, the key objective is to further consolidate the organization following the expansion process and the creation of the “partner country” category.
The meeting also supported the approach of India’s 2026 chairmanship toward ensuring continuity and maintaining cooperation dynamics in BRICS’ three main areas of cooperation—politics and security, economy and finance, and cultural and humanitarian relations.
