Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen met with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania.

Berendsen said the meeting addressed issues related to continuing cooperation between the two countries on security and support for Ukraine.

Berendsen said they also discussed how cooperation between the two countries could continue during the period when Lithuania assumes the rotating presidency of the European Union next year.

Berendsen stated that Lithuania and the Netherlands share a common position on strengthening NATO’s eastern flank.

Berendsen said the Netherlands’ priorities are a stronger NATO and, alongside it, a stronger Europe, adding that Europe’s defense industrial base needs to be strengthened.

The continuation of support for Ukraine was also on the agenda of the meeting.

Berendsen said the Netherlands supports continued assistance to Ukraine and stated that pressure on Russia should be increased to bring it to the negotiating table.

Berendsen said cooperation between the two countries in the areas of security, defense and support for Ukraine would continue in the period ahead.
