Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha reported that he had a productive first meeting with Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen on his first day in office. Sybiha said he congratulated him on his appointment and wished him success in his role.

“I thanked the Netherlands for its consistent leadership on various issues, from accountability and sanctions to strengthening our defense and energy resilience,” Sybiha stated, adding that he was particularly grateful for the energy assistance provided in the face of Russia’s ongoing attacks on Ukraine’s infrastructure.

Sybiha noted that they discussed the schedule of upcoming contacts and agreed to maintain close coordination, saying, “I briefed my counterpart on the situation on the battlefield and Ukraine’s peace efforts, and emphasized the critical role of the United States in advancing a meaningful peace process.”
