Petro: I invite the people of Venezuela to find paths of civic dialogue and unity
Bogota, January 3 (Hibya) – Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced that following the National Security Council meeting, security forces and humanitarian support capacities were deployed along the border.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro stated that after the National Security Council meeting concluded early in the morning, security and humanitarian measures were increased along the Venezuelan border.
Petro said that in response to possible mass inflows of refugees, security forces and all available assistance capacities were dispatched to the border line, adding: “Colombia’s embassy in Venezuela is in active mode to respond to assistance requests from Colombian citizens in the country.”
Petro noted that Colombia, as a member of the United Nations Security Council, will take steps to urgently convene a Council meeting.
Emphasizing that internal conflicts among peoples should be resolved peacefully by the peoples themselves, Petro said: “This is a requirement of the right of peoples to self-determination, which forms the foundation of the United Nations system. I invite the people of Venezuela to find paths of civic dialogue and unity. Without sovereignty there is no nation. Peace is the only way, and dialogue among peoples is the basis of national unity.”
