Russia reacts to U.S. oil blockade against Venezuela
Moscow, Dec. 26 (Hibya) – Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova described the United States’ obstruction of oil shipments to Venezuela as “piracy, plunder and banditry” in the Caribbean.
According to CCTV, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova responded to the U.S. oil blockade against Venezuela during a press conference held in Moscow.
Recalling that the United States has intervened against three oil tankers in international waters off the coast of Venezuela over the past two weeks, Zakharova said illegal activities have re-emerged in the Caribbean and can be described as piracy, plunder and banditry.
Emphasizing that Russia continues to support de-escalation, the preservation of mutual trust and the обеспечения of predictability, Zakharova stated that the main objective is to prevent the situation from escalating in a destructive direction.
Zakharova added that Russia supports the efforts of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to protect national sovereignty and interests and to maintain the country’s stability, security and development, expressing hope that the United States will also find a mutually acceptable solution within the framework of international law.
