Schoof: Support for Ukraine is critical to European security
Amsterdam, December 18 (Hibya) – Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof said he will highlight the importance of military and financial support for Ukraine at the European Council meeting.
Dutch Prime Minister Schoof stated that a European Council meeting with a broad agenda will take place this week.
Schoof said the meeting will address the need to support Ukraine not only militarily, but also economically and socially.
Schoof said: “This support will remain necessary in any case, whether Russian aggression continues or a lasting peace agreement is reached.”
Touching on how the EU should finance its support for Ukraine, Schoof added: “Our preference is for recovery loans backed by frozen Russian assets. This will ensure that Russia ultimately pays and that risks and burdens are shared fairly among member states. Support for Ukraine is critical to European security.”
