US NATO envoy says Zelensky's participation in summit is not ruled out
Stockholm, August 11 (Hibya) - US NATO Ambassador Matthew Whitaker said it is quite possible that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will participate in Friday's meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In an interview with CNN, Whitaker said that reaching an agreement is impossible without the approval of all parties and emphasized the importance of ending Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine.
The final decision belongs to Trump, but it has not yet been made. "If he thinks it is best to invite Zelensky, he will invite him," Whitaker said. European leaders are making intense efforts to ensure Ukrainians participate in the meeting between the two presidents.
Leaders fear that without Zelensky, Ukrainians will have to give up vast territories that the European Union says are non-negotiable. Following the announcement of the meeting, the Ukrainian president spoke with thirteen world leaders, including key supporters such as the United Kingdom, France, and Germany.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said he hopes and expects Zelensky to be invited.
