Vilnius Airport closed due to smuggler balloons
Stockholm, February 18 (Hibya) - Lithuania’s National Crisis Management Centre reported that operations at Vilnius Airport were suspended on Tuesday evening after balloons arriving from Belarus caused disturbances in the country’s airspace.
Airspace restrictions were implemented at 20:30. The airport later announced that operations resumed at 21:45 after the restrictions were lifted.
In a statement, the National Crisis Management Centre said: “Airlines and pilots have been warned that due to unidentified objects in Lithuanian airspace, flights may be diverted to holding areas or other airports, and schedule changes are possible. Services are monitoring and analyzing the movement of navigation signals to ensure safe flights. Passengers are advised to follow announcements from airports and airlines.”
