WHO chief Ghebreyesus reviews Youth Council’s 2025 activities
Geneva, Dec. 17 (Hibya) – World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the WHO Youth Council successfully brought young people’s perspectives and expertise to the global health agenda throughout 2025.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, “I congratulate the WHO Youth Council for successfully bringing young people’s perspectives and expertise to the global health agenda throughout 2025.”
Ghebreyesus noted that the council raised awareness on the pandemic agreement, climate and health actions, the fight against noncommunicable diseases through Beat NCDs, and protecting young people from harmful products such as e-cigarettes.
He added, “Together with the WHOEMRO Regional Youth Council, we were pleased this year to host the WHOSEARO Regional Youth Council, and we look forward to expanding youth engagement across other WHO regions.”
Ghebreyesus stated that they welcomed the council’s recommendations on building inclusive and equitable health systems, addressing the social determinants of health, empowering marginalized and vulnerable groups, advancing digital health, and increasing youth participation.
The WHO chief emphasized that as they move into 2026, they will ensure that youth-led initiatives translate into lasting progress.
