Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi, who visited Moscow for talks with officials of the Russian Federation, met on Tuesday afternoon with Slutsky, chair of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, as well as Duma members and their advisers.

Araghchi said the meeting was a valuable opportunity to review ways to develop Iran-Russia relations and the contribution of the two countries’ parliaments to bilateral ties. Stressing that relations between Iran and Russia are based on a strategic partnership, Araghchi underlined that this cooperation serves the interests of both countries and strengthens regional and international peace and security.

Pointing to the growing unilateral and coercive policies of the United States (US), Araghchi said Iran and Russia would firmly continue cooperation within the framework of safeguarding multilateralism and the principles of the United Nations (UN). He added that cooperation would also continue in international and regional organizations such as BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Eurasian Economic Union.

Slutsky, chair of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, said the meeting was an appropriate opportunity to bring the two countries’ views closer and increase coordination on bilateral and international issues. Both sides highlighted the need to expand cooperation in the economic, trade, transport, transit, energy, tourism, and industrial sectors.

Hassan Ghashghavi, a member of Iran’s Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, also attended the meeting and outlined the Iranian Majlis’ plans to strengthen Iran-Russia relations and broaden cooperation.
