Washington, February 5 (Hibya) – US President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, announced that an agreement was reached to reopen military communication channels following the Trilateral Peace Talks hosted by the United Arab Emirates.
US President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, shared details of the second trilateral meeting held in Abu Dhabi on February 4–5, aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.
Providing information about the content of the talks, Witkoff said, “On February 4 and 5, delegations from the United States, Ukraine, and the Russian Federation came together in Abu Dhabi for a second trilateral meeting to advance efforts to end the war in Ukraine. The talks were constructive and focused on how to create the conditions for lasting peace.”
Speaking about the long-awaited prisoner exchange, Witkoff stated, “The delegations agreed that the Russian Federation and Ukraine would each release 157 prisoners of war. This marks the first prisoner exchange in the past five months.”
Emphasizing that a critical step was taken in terms of military diplomacy, Witkoff concluded, “The United States and Russia also agreed to establish a military dialogue under the leadership of the Commander of US European Command, General Alexus Grynkewich. This communication channel had been suspended before the start of this conflict and is vital for achieving and maintaining peace.”
