Zelensky and his team held talks with the U.S. delegation
Kyiv, 11 December (Hibya) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his team held a video conference with the American side regarding security guarantees, one of the three documents prepared to achieve peace.
The American side was represented by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, members of the U.S. President’s team Stephen Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Generals Jack Keane and Alexus Hrynkevich, and White House Senior Advisor Josh Gruenbaum. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte also joined the meeting.
Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine greatly appreciates the active efforts of the American side at various levels to end the war, ensure Ukraine’s security, and prevent a new Russian invasion.
Highlighting that security guarantees are among the most important components for all future steps, Zelensky recalled: “We have already experienced the negative consequences of the Budapest Memorandum. Everyone remembers this. We also remember how Russia repeatedly violated all its commitments.”
Zelensky stressed that the security guarantees document must contain concrete answers on what actions partners will take if the Russian Federation decides once again to launch aggression against Ukraine.
The parties agreed that Ukrainian and American teams will work actively in the near future to reach a concrete understanding on security guarantees.
