Bulgarian President Rumen Radev stated that his country wishes to benefit from South Korea’s experience in order to increase the efficiency of state governance and strengthen its capacity in the field of e-government.

President Radev noted that a discussion is underway in Bulgaria regarding the structure, staffing, functions, and effectiveness of public administration. He emphasized that South Korea has achieved significant successes in the digitalization of administrative processes and in e-government. Radev added that the development of e-government should enhance transparency in public administration and reduce the subjective element in decision-making.

During the meeting, both sides highlighted that economy, investments, high technology, science, education, and culture are particularly promising areas for cooperation between Bulgaria and South Korea. President Radev recalled that South Korea is one of Bulgaria’s priority partners in East Asia and that the two countries will celebrate the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025.

Radev pointed out the great potential of cooperation in the field of high technology, noting that Southeast Europe’s first Institute of Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT) was established in Bulgaria, that a supercomputer is operating with EU support, and that the European Commission has selected Bulgaria as the location for an artificial intelligence factory.

President Radev also emphasized that Bulgaria closely monitors security developments in the East Asian region and reaffirmed its support for the implementation of United Nations resolutions concerning North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs.

Bulgarian President Rumen Radev invited South Korean President Lee Jae-myung to pay an official visit to Bulgaria.
