Zelensky: Cooperation with Cyprus will support Ukraine’s EU goals and security
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed European Union (EU) negotiations, sanctions, and humanitarian aid during meetings with Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides and Archbishop His Beatitude Georgios.
Ukrainian President Zelensky noted that Cyprus is now holding the EU Council presidency, and during this period, they aim to open negotiation clusters and make progress towards Ukraine’s EU membership. He mentioned that he discussed this issue with President Christodoulides and expressed confidence in productive cooperation.
Zelensky also mentioned that during his meeting with the president, they discussed strengthening sanctions against Russia, reinforcing air defense, the production and supply of drones, and Cyprus’s participation in the PURL and SAFE initiatives. He emphasized the need for strong ongoing support for Ukraine.
During his meeting with Archbishop Georgios of the Cyprus Church, Zelensky explained his peace efforts and made a request for support for the people of Ukraine, including humanitarian assistance, medical and food aid, and the rebuilding of religious sites. He expressed his gratitude for every expression of support given to his people.
