Albares: Ukraine and the EU must be at the table in any negotiations
Madrid, August 11 (Hibya) - Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation, Jose Manuel Albares, stated that as a first step towards a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, they seek an unconditional and verifiable ceasefire, and that Ukraine and the EU must be at the table in any negotiations.
Albares announced that during the extraordinary meeting of EU foreign ministers, they discussed the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East.
He emphasized that in both tragedies, war must end, a just and lasting peace must be secured, and the principles of the UN Charter must be respected, adding: “In Ukraine, we want an unconditional and verifiable ceasefire as the first step towards a just and lasting peace.”
Albares stressed that Ukraine and the EU must be at the table in any negotiations, adding: “Aggression cannot be rewarded. The EU must act immediately to prevent a new wave of Israeli violence in Gaza. We cannot remain passive in the face of the growing Israeli military occupation and the famine it causes. It is time to follow Spain’s example and recognize the State of Palestine.”
