Lazzarini emphasized that throughout the war in Gaza, UNRWA teams have remained determined to find ways to support the population.

He said that their operations have now been expanded, noting that medical teams treat around 15,000 patients daily. “We are expanding our public health services. Our teams are ensuring access to clean water; collecting and disposing of solid waste, which poses a major health risk.”

Lazzarini added that psychosocial counselors are holding daily support sessions to help people cope with the trauma caused by the war and losses.

“In-person education is increasing each day; today, we reach almost 50,000 children, and online classes continue for many more students. Our staff conducts regular awareness sessions to prevent further casualties from the enormous amount of unexploded ordnance scattered across Gaza.”

He concluded: “UNRWA operates extremely cost-effectively as a direct-acting organization. More than ever, existing restrictions and barriers must be removed so we can respond to the most critical needs and contribute to stability.”
