Prevot: I demand strict compliance with international law
New York, September 24 (Hibya) – Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Development Cooperation, Maxime Prevot, reacted to the new attacks on the "Global Sumud" flotilla.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Prevot said that the reports of new attacks on the "Global Sumud" flotilla were alarming.
Emphasizing that people from dozens of countries, including Belgians, were on board, Prevot said: “I demand strict compliance with international law, including maritime law.”
He pointed out that international humanitarian law obliges Israel to allow the delivery of vital aid to the civilian population in Gaza and added: “Existing mechanisms such as GHF do not meet fundamental principles. Although the humanitarian purpose of the flotilla is commendable, such civilian initiatives remain risky.”
Prevot stated that the priorities of Belgian diplomacy include the delivery of humanitarian aid, the establishment of a ceasefire, and the immediate release of hostages.
