The U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary celebration will coincide with Trump’s birthday
Washington, May 3 (Hibya) – The White House has confirmed that a military parade will be held on June 14 to mark the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army. This date also coincides with former President Donald Trump’s birthday.
A military spokesperson said that a “day-long festival” will take place at the National Mall in Washington, with participation from 6,600 troops, 150 vehicles, and 50 aircraft.
Trump had proposed a military parade during his first term but abandoned the idea after reports suggested it would cost around $90 million (71 million pounds).
Early Friday, Trump announced plans to rename Veterans Day – known in the UK as Remembrance Day – to “World War I Victory Day” in honor of America’s wartime contributions.
Trump first proposed a military parade for Veterans Day in 2018.
He also said he wants to rename May 8 – currently known as Victory Day – as “World War II Victory Day.”
The announcement was not accompanied by a presidential order, and it remains unclear whether May 8 will become a federal holiday. This authority lies with the U.S. Congress.
These dates respectively mark the end of World War I in 1918 and Germany’s surrender to the Allies in 1945.
In a midnight post, Trump wrote, “Many of our allies and friends celebrate May 8 as Victory Day, but we did far more than any other nation to achieve victory in World War II.”
“We won both wars. No one came close to us in strength, courage, or military brilliance – but we celebrate nothing,” he added. “Because we no longer have leaders who know how to do it! That’s why we will start celebrating our victories again!”
Later Friday, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt denied reports that Veterans Day would be renamed and wrote on X: “We will always honor Veterans Day AND we should recognize the ends of World War I and II as victory days!”
