Lavrov: Russia is facing a large amount of speculation and misinformation
Moscow, 11 December (Hibya) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, at a roundtable meeting attended by ambassadors, drew attention to the numerous speculations aimed at undermining efforts to reach a solution on Ukraine.
Lavrov noted a sharp increase in speculation and information leaks surrounding Ukraine, aimed at prolonging the conflict and disrupting diplomatic efforts toward a resolution.
“We are gathering at a time when the media publishes assessments several times a day, fueling new expectations. There are growing expectations that a diplomatic solution to the conflict around Ukraine is approaching. There is a significant amount of speculation, destructive propaganda, and fabrications,” he said.
According to Lavrov, a substantial portion of these information operations originates from the West and is intended to complicate the search for a negotiated solution.
The minister recalled that European countries avoid discussing the root causes of the Ukraine crisis. According to him, the EU mainly limits itself to ceasefire calls in order to ‘catch its breath’ and continue supporting the Kyiv regime.
Lavrov stressed that this approach only prolongs the conflict, while the West actively uses the Ukraine issue to divert international attention from the Palestinian question.
He confirmed that current contacts between Moscow and Washington are focused not on creating a temporary pause, but on finding a lasting solution. He also stated that U.S. President Donald Trump shows genuine commitment to a political and diplomatic resolution of the conflict.
