Brazil, 13 January (Hibya) – Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva held a telephone conversation with Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro.

Stating that they discussed the approval and the signing on 17 January of the MERCOSUR-EU Partnership Agreement, Lula da Silva said: “We recognize that this decision taken by both blocs is a very important gesture in defending multilateralism and free trade, carries great political significance at this historic moment, and we will work together for its implementation.”
Lula da Silva added that the situation in Venezuela and the importance of preserving South America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace were also discussed.
