Three million new documents released in Epstein case
Washington, January 31 (Hibya) – The U.S. Department of Justice released millions of new files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who died in prison, marking the largest disclosure by the government since a law last year mandated their release.
On Friday, three million pages, 180,000 images, and 2,000 videos were made public.
The release came six weeks after the department missed the legal deadline set by a law signed by President Donald Trump requiring all Epstein-related documents to be disclosed.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said, “Today’s release marks the conclusion of a very extensive document identification and review process to provide transparency and compliance for the American people.”
The files include details of Jeffrey Epstein’s time in prison (including a psychological report) and his death while incarcerated, as well as investigative records concerning his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, convicted of helping traffic underage girls for prostitution.
They also include emails between Epstein and high-profile individuals.
Most of the emails and documents date back more than a decade and shed light on relationships Epstein formed during his legal troubles. In 2008 in Florida, he was convicted after reaching a controversial deal with prosecutors for soliciting sex from a 14-year-old girl.
